Hi!
I am terribly sorry but the shoot I planned for this assignment will actually take place this weekend, therefore I don't have any pictures to show you for now. This is entirely my fault as I didn't read the assignment sheet properly and didn't realize that the blog pictures weren't due at the same time as the prints...I will however upload the pictures on here as soon as I shoot them.

Child Project
For this project, I took pictures of my cousin Simone who is a little over one year old. It was extremely rainy and dark that day and Simone was sick, so I decided to go with the flow and take blurry emotional portraits of her.
here are some extra pictures, just for fun :

Catchlight research
subtle catchlights using natural light by David Urbanke
technically this isn't really a catchlight, even though there are some reflections in the model's eyes - I just thought this picture by Kenta Murakami was really interesting
by the69th
In all these pictures, the catchlights help to add depth to the models' expression, making them seem more alive. In other cases, if the catchlights were bigger, they could even show the environment surrounding the models which I think can be interesting in certain situations.
Fill Flash research
here are a few images by Noah Kalina (http://www.noahkalina.com/) :
I think Noah Kalina's use of fill flash is a bit harsh at times but overall it successfully creates an interesting atmosphere. By using this fill flash technique, he manages to get a lot of details in his main subjects while underexposing his background a little bit

Food Photography - Web Research
1. A food photograph that you consider to be truly creative and original :
2. A food photograph that is really mouth-watering.
''raddish ravioli'' by Dominic Davies
Cookies & Cream Cheesecake Cupcakes, found here
I would have posted images from this site but sadly you can't access the images' urls and I'm too lazy to make screencaps, but everyone should check it out because absolutely EVERYTHING on there is mouth-watering

Glass Research
I really like the simplicity of this image. The composition with the three glasses works really well and the light coming from the back gives a sort of mysterious feel to this picture which could have otherwise seemed boring. Another thing that I like about this picture is the water in the glass which is in the middle - it's one of the only pictures I've found in which the water didn't seem either out of place or completely photoshopped...the movement is nice and realistic.
Here is how the artist explains what sort equipment he used to shoot this photograph :
''I used a 580EX II as master to trigger a 430EX behind the plexiglass in manual mode. The 430EX was set to 1/4th power. The black sheets to the left and right increased the contrast of the contour while the high speed sync cancelled out ambient light.''
The artist even shared a ''behind the scenes'' shot which allows us to see his set-up :
I think it's interesting to see that you can come up with such a professional-looking shot by using a really simple set-up like this

The one thing I like the most about this picture is the use of negative space. I don't know to what extend this is real vs. photoshopped (the shattering of the glass and the jumping fish seem quite unlikely to happen so simultaneously...), but overall I would say that the elements in this picture create an interesting composition. The lighting is very simple and effective although, once again, I have a feeling that the glass might have been shot separately and then digitally added onto the background. In both cases, the glass would have been lit slightly from the back as we can clearly see the edges of the stand and the shattered pieces.

egg project
these are two of the pictures I originally shot in the studio - I was originally going to shoot a different version of this but in the end I was quite pleased with these pictures so I decided to just go with them :)
